Three directions, one facility

From an algorithm to an interactive experience.

ggLab is where several FIT CTU teaching and research topics intersect. A project may be technical, creative — and very often both.

Visualisation and recognition

Rendering, image data, dynamic textures, interactive visualisation and new ways of working with images.

Game design and worlds

Game mechanics, prototyping, engines, level design and teamwork from a game jam to a thesis project.

Digital and generative art

Creative coding, audiovisual experiments, physical interfaces and work at the intersection of technology and art.

What happens here

A laboratory is more than a room full of equipment.

It is also a community built around talks, workshops, intensive courses, student exhibitions and collaborative game creation.

Daniel Tripplet's practical block combined Unreal Engine, Blender basics and 3D scanning, including using scanned assets in a scene. We expect a similar format next year.

Experimental equipment

Technology you would not normally find in a classroom.

The equipment supports teaching, theses, research prototypes and external collaboration. Current availability must be arranged in advance.

Interactive wall and table

Large-scale multi-user touch surfaces for public installations, experimental games and research.

Tactile Matrix Box

A physical tactile interface for experiments in unconventional image representation and interaction.

VR and XR headsets

XTAL, HTC Focus 3, HTC Elite and Oculus Quest 2 for developing, testing and presenting immersive applications.

Projects and teaching

Ideas do not end up in a drawer.

Course projects, theses and short experiments can continue as public showcases, games, research prototypes or new collaborations.
